Description

Leimu, “flame” in English, spreads warm and comfortable light in your living room. The unusual chalice shape of the lamp by Iittala surprises, even before the second exciting detail comes into play.

The concrete base creates a contrast to the weightless, transparent lampshade – a design, which connects sensibility with strength. The designer Magnus Pettersen explained: “The connection of concrete and glass is famous in architecture, but not always really attractive. I wanted to create a soft combination of both opposites in a lamp, which emphasised the interplay of warm and cold elements.” The Norwegian is known for the combination of counterparts, since his style is also called “industrial luxury.”

It was not easy to make a harmonic interplay of socket and lampshade regarding the technique. Finally, glass is filigree and concrete massive, making it difficult to ensure a flowing mixture. Thanks to Iittala’s experience, this problem was not difficult to resolve, since Iittala represents competence in glass processing like no other.
