Series 7 by Arne Jacobsen

The designer Arne Jacobsen created a chair that would become a design legend, with the Series 3107 from 1955. Weightless, easily stackable and very resistant at a time: It was the perfect chair for the living room. But even Jacobsen couldn’t suspect how popular his chair would become in the late 20th and soon 21st century.

The classic chair by Fritz Hansen is available in many colours and with different bases today. That makes the Series 7 very versatile. The form-pressed seat is available out of ten different woods: maple, beech, ash, cherry, Oregon pine, elm, walnut, oak, dark stained oak or thoroughly stained oak. But the core veneer is always beech wood.

The Classic to be Configured

The Series 7 is an absolute all-rounder and available as dining chair and office chair. More comfort is promised by the different fabric and leather covers for the seat and the backrest. According to the own demands, the Series 7 can be ordered in the most different colours, combinations of bases and with or without armrests.

Coloured from Head to Toes

New special colours and anniversary editions promise exclusivity and dress the classic chair with new clothes. This is how the Series 7 is also available in a limited edition since 2015, being a real piece of jewellery with browned and gold-plated bases and with monochromatic allover-looks with matching bases and seats. The new colours by the artist Tal R reach from a soft rose to an opaque blue:

"All the colours have one thing in common: They lie in between two colours and are constantly pulled in both directions; this gives the colours depth and the ability to conjure up mental images. To me, it’s important that every single colour has a story behind it that sparks associations. Therefore, each of the nine colours that I’ve chosen for the Series 7 chair has its own story and lets you see the chair in a new perspective."

Timeless Shapes made of Wood

The classic variant remains the natural or black lacquered one with chrome-plated legs. The Series 7 counts to the most successful designs of the Danish designer, in which he connected modernistic minimalism with the love for natural materials. A permanent place in the Museum of Modern Art and meanwhile more than 7 million sold specimen are the reasons of why the Series 7 chair deservedly belongs to the classic piece among all chairs.
