The Simba basket in reality has no name, only the importer of Zimbabwe to Namibia is called Simba. “Simba” means Lion on Swahili. Simba from Auerberg however, is a wire basket which has been discovered by both photographers Thomas Koller and Gisela Schenker in Namibia.
The fascinating thing at the Simba fruits basket from Auerberg is its simplicity: three bent elements out of stainless steel wire, which are connected in sphere form and make up a versatile, movable whole image which can be presented on the table as new sculpture every now and then.
The fruits basket Simba by the way, didn’t come from Namibia, it is only sold there, but from Zimbabwe explaining also its name, which is a pun.
