Hay - Woody Shelf

Woody is the modern interpretation, of a traditional ledder inspired shelf system. Without obviously back- and front sides, it can be used as an isolated furniture piece, or mounted on the wall. It follows the idea that a shelf visual shouldn't seem too dominant, so there's enough room for tools which can be positioned in it.

Woody has obviously the ghost of the modernism in it. There are no unnecessary extras and the details of the construction are not hidden. The shelf is only made of oak wood, wooden bars, steel and screws. The treated oak gives the shelf a traditional Scandinavian expression, which will be renewed and contrasted through the steel shelf inlays.

So happens a nice connection between tradition and modernism, from simplicity, modernism and playfulness. Typical for the Danish disgn company Hay and their exclusive collection - and that the coeval Scandinavian designer can revive the tradition of the 50s and 60s belong to the beliefs of Rolf Hay, who opened his company in 2003, which became famous really quick.

Woody was originally designed for the Hay House Shop in Copenhagen, which was opened in June 2008. After the many positive reactions and questions of the customers, a little overworked version of the shelf went in production.
