“Imagine: taking a simple brush and starting to clean the workshop. And out of all the dust one forms something completely new as if by magic.”
The Broom Chair by Emeco is a creation by the French designer Philippe Starck, designed in cooperation with the US-American manufacturer Emeco. The name of the Broom Chair characterizes its essential qualities, since the robust and weatherproof seat consists of 90% recycled material – industrial and consumers’ waste. Which have so to say been “brushed together” and transformed into a new material, a kind of recycled wood-polypropylene (WPP).
With this, the Broom Chair by Emeco is one of the most environment friendly chairs, since natural resources are protected and the energy consumption is reduced by the recycling of waste. The new material WPP was initially developed for observation decks, bridges and facades. Emeco goes further with the material mix for the Bloom Chair, since the re-gained WPP consists of 75% recycled polypropylene, 15% recycled wood fibre and only 10% glass fibre (to reinforce the material) and pigments for the colours.
After the Coca Cola Chair by Emeco, which already consists of 65% recycled PET-bottles; the Broom Chair is now another, environment friendly chair, being more robust, resistant and weatherproof than some other chairs. And by the way, the longevity chair convinces by its lateral, reduced appearance and because it is stackable (up to 6 chair).
The Broom Chair by Emeco is available in different colours.
