The Aino Aalto-designed 606 side table is an unusual piece, as the side table was originally designed as a stool. Like her famous husband Alvar, Aino Aalto did away with superfluous details and drew upon light, clear shapes. Like the 23 chair, the 606 side table belongs to a collection of black furniture that was presented in London by the two Aaltos in 1933.
Thanks to its simple colour, shape and stackability, the 606 side table fits in in various surroundings, both private and public. The 606 was initially used as a stool in the Alvar Aalto-designed clinic in Paimio, though it is its simple, clear shape that makes the 606 side table multifunctional. Artek manufactures the 606 side table with a frame made from a matte lacquered steel tube and a board of birch veneer.
