Maija Louekari is a Finnish designer, which was born in Oulu in 1982. She is especially famous for her patterns for the traditional manufacturer Marimekko.
Louekari studied design and decoration at the University of Helsinki and in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Soon afterwards the designer furnished her own expositions, especially shown in Finland, Denmark, Italy and France.
The creative patterns of the designer are inspired by fairy-tales and children’s stories, the designer learned in her childhood. The connection to Marimekko dates as well back to her youth, since the loved the patterns of the Danish manufacturer as a young girl. It is no wonder how well she fits in the assortment of the traditional manufacturer.
Besides textile design, Maija Louekari also works as illustrator and in product design. Her creativity was already honoured with the Elle Deco International Design Award.
