Vitra - Belleville

Belleville Collection by Vitra

Modern, French design

The Belleville collection is named after the Parisian quarter of the same name, in which the designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec live and work. A quarter, which is characterized by the typical French café culture. Inspired by this culture and the classic Bistro furnishing, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed a series of tables and chairs with the Belleville Collection, which take up the charm of the French lively atmosphere.

Tradition meets modernity

The Belleville chairs and tables are based on the classic French shapes, but are actually more sophisticated, contemporary and slender concerning their form, materiality and construction.

The Belleville Chair is a plastic chair made of two components - a structural frame and a seat shell. Tracing the calligraphic lines of the legs and back, the slender black frame supports a thin shell that tapers from the wide seat surface into a narrow backrest. The seat is available optionally made of plastic, wood or covered in leather or fabric.

The Belleville table is available as a small square or round bistro table with star-shaped base, or as a bistro and dining table in different widths and lengths with t-shaped legs. The table tops are, depending on the model, available in solid wood, veneered wood, melamine or solid-core material. The black-coated die-cast aluminium table legs are indistinguishable in colour and texture from the chair’s plastic frame.

Versatile furniture for homes or cafés

The chair forms a uniform and yet diverse group, a hybrid family which is finely co-ordinated with the Belleville tables. Therefore, the Vitra chairs and tables can be combined - also in large numbers - and likewise inserted into lively bistros, as in Gallery rooms or in apartments of different interior styles.
