Part decorative element, part toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally created for designer Alexander Girard's own use. Based on the original figurines in his estate, the sometimes cheerful, sometimes rather grim-looking company is produced by Vitra as a charming addition to any interior.
The Wooden Dolls wooden figures were originally designed and made by Alexander Girard for his house in Santa Fe. The designer found inspiration for the small figures in his own extensive folk art collection.
Together with Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, Alexander Girard is one of the most influential figures in post-war American design. The focus of his multifaceted work was textile design, whereby his intensive study of the folk art of South America, Asia and Eastern Europe was a major source of inspiration.
The Wooden Dolls are made of solid fir wood and are hand-painted. They are supplied in a printed wooden box together with a brochure.
The Wooden Dolls with the numbers 13 - 16 are also available.
