Plattenbau is a plug-in shelving system. The individual parts can be plugged together without any tools.
The shelf is composed exclusively of 4mm HPL plates. In spite of the humble material thickness, an extremely high capacity (max. 25 kg per compartment) and stability is attained through the horizontal and vertical reinforcement ribs, based on the construction principle of a T-beam. When finished, a shelf is created which is visually light and delicate while still impressing with its high stability. The name comes from the pre-fab concrete buildings erected in communist East Germany, which similar to this shelving system could be expanded as desired and were easy to assemble.
Each compartment of Plattenbau consists of individual elements which can be combined together. This creates the widths and heights as desired by you.
Plattenbau has four different compartment heights: for CDs, paperbacks, folders or picture books. The open compartments can also be closed with hanging doors and the individual elements can be equipped with rear panels if needed.
By using thin panels instead of large and bulky components, the product has dimensions that make packaging and transport practical and weight that makes the latter even easier.
For example, a shelf can be broken down into six compartments and packed up taking the same amount of space as a briefcase, making it just as easy to transport or send. The Plattenbau shelving system is also available in the colours graphite grey, sand and yellow. Please note that all measurements on this page are based on the interior dimensions.
