Stool 60 by Artek - a classic on three legs

The stackable stool 60 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1933 and manufactured by O.y. Huonekalu - ja Rakennustyötehdas manufactured. After Artek was founded in 1935, the stool was included in the standard range of Artek . In the 1940s, the simple three-legged stool became a famous bestseller. The famous design was created for the library in Viipuri and went around the world.

The minimalist and functional design was a revolution at the time. Instead of the usual steel, architect and designer Alvar Aalto used birch wood, which is massively available in Finland. For this reason, the unusual stool was affordable even for poorer families. And to continue the tradition, Artek still produces the 60 stool from bent solid birch veneer. The wood is bent in a process specially developed by Aalto, and the legs and seat are glued together to form a single visual unit. The seat is available in different lacquered versions (clear, black or white lacquer). Furthermore, with different seat surfaces coated with black linoleum or white laminate or upholstered with fabric or leather.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Stool 60 presents Artek some special editions of the stool - with colored lacquered seats, as well as limited editions with different patterns of different artists.
