Iconic light sculpture made from traditional washi paper
The Akari 120A luminaire from Vitra is part of the legendary Akari Light Sculptures series, which Isamu Noguchi designed from 1951. Inspired by Japanese craftsmanship, the lamps combine traditional materials with a sculptural, timeless design language.
Handcrafted from fine washi paper by Japanese artisans, the luminaire produces a soft, warm light that creates a calm and atmospheric mood. The delicate bamboo structure gives the luminaire its characteristic lightness and makes it appear to almost float. With its organic shape, the Akari 120A not only a source of light, but also a sculptural design object. Isamu Noguchi understood light as a connection between function, art and nature - an idea that remains tangible in the Akari series to this day.
