It all began in Ettore Sottsass’ living room and became the legendary design movement: in 1981 was when the design group Memphis was founded in Milan, developing to be a whole design movement with revolutionary ideas. In the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Memphis Grouo, the Architektur & Wohnen magazine (A&W) published an interview with seven founding members.
Andrea Branzi, Aldo Cibic, Michele De Lucchi, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Barbara Radice, George Sowden as well as Matteo Thun all of them answered all kind of questions for the magazine. They also talked about the Memphis foundation, about motivations, demands and aims of the group, about revolutionary design ideas, why design needs a revolution again and about what Bob Dylan means for the unusual naming of the group.
The interesting and entertaining interview with the seven members of the Memphis Design Group (German page) are on the homepage of the magazine “Architektur & Wohnen”. Find further information about the Memphis Design Movement on the homepage of the Memphis Design Collection.
