Brokis combines traditional mouth-blown glass with other materials such as wood or metal to create stylish compositions with a high recognition value. The manufacturer's range includes both practical functional lighting and decorative lighting objects that stylishly enhance any room.
Maintenance of the Bohemian glass craftsmanship
Brokis was founded in 2006 by Jan Rabell with the aim of preserving the traditional Bohemian glass craft and placing it in a modern context. Almost 10 years earlier, in 1997, Rabell took over the Janštejn glass manufactory, which had already been founded near Prague in 1809 and was affected by bankruptcy. At that time, the demand for traditionally manufactured glass objects declined significantly and, with the progress of many glassmakers, the loss of traditional manufacturing techniques threatened. Jan Rabell pursued the vision of the manufactory to make it famous at that time and wanted to ensure that the old Bohemian tradition of glassmaking would continue into the 2nd 1. century.
Traditional and modern production techniques combined
With Brokis, Rabell is taking a new path and offering more diverse products than the objects previously produced in the Janštejn glass factory. The factory has been modernised: several new Italian ovens have been installed and production methods have been optimised. While individual techniques such as grinding and painting glass were abandoned, other methods such as hand-blown glass, shaping optical glass and the traditional techniques of glassworks were revived. In addition, the original and almost forgotten production processes for colouring glass, which are currently characteristic of the Czech producer, have been renewed.
Brokis and Janštejn Glass Manufactory currently employ about 100 people. The symbiosis of the two companies makes it possible to initiate sales in 70 countries and to present the modern illuminated objects at the world's leading trade fairs for design and interior design.
