Michelle Ivankovic was born in Toronto, Canada, where she also grew up. She graduated as best student in industrial design of the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1998. After finishing her studies, she worked as fine carpenter and manufactured high quality furniture. Finally she ended up at the design manufacturer Umbra and became creative visionary there, responsible for the trend-setting Art Direction and related products of the umbra U + Collection.
She works in her atelier in Amsterdam, where she connects the unique combination of fine handicraft, design and pop culture. Her Michelle Strass stool design is part of the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Museum.
