Fredrik Mattson

Mattson was born in Malmö in 1973. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter and two years working as a cabinet maker, he studied at Stenebyskolan and in Stockholm furniture and interior design.

Mattson compares design and architecture with music. “As a designer, I am aiming at composing melodies which you want to hear again and again without getting bored.

He prooved his talent in 2001 when he designed the multifunctional chair Innovation C which was awarded with the Young Swedish Design Award and also the Architectural Review Award, London. However, the armchairs Elle and Fatback and the Chair 69 which were also created by Mattson, win over their sophisticated design.

In the Blå Station Ensemble, Mattson could also proof his value as a team player. In cooperation with Stefan Borselius, he created very modern design furniture such as the Snooze, Level and the stackable chair Sting which was very successful for the young designer team. It was awarded with the desired Red Dot Design Award and also won five further Design Prizes.
